Training & Empowerment

Business Development Programmes

From early summer 2022, for 6 months, we ran several food-based programmes, combining ESOL, Level 2 food hygiene, and business planning training. A total of 22 women participated including three long-standing volunteers who received training to become adult facilitators. Together we were going on a journey of women’s empowerment.

The course was an intensive fast-track course, that was taught in a classroom for four weeks, for four hours, with homework tasks. In addition, there was an opportunity to interact with the community. In the last session, participants were able to deliver presentations, evaluate their progress, and reflect on their strengths and weaknesses.

As a testimony of their success was clearly seen. Sessions were mainly led by volunteers and sometimes learners who were all actively motivated by each other to talk about their future, plans, how they had overcome barriers, and the changes they will make going to reach their personal goals.

Our women’s training programmes, events and activities are funded by Liverpool City region, Community Foundation Merseyside and Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Services.

Join our weekly wonderful Wednesdays Women Group (WWW) every Wednesday from 10 am -1 pm at Toxteth Town Library for continental breakfast and brunch. Meet other amazing women doing fabulous things to discover, news, train, learn and develop opportunities and grow a sisterhood of inspiring women.

Girls working on ideas to create solutions for a greener community in Dingle, Liverpool

We empower underrepresented women to improve their participation in leadership roles, improve their community participation and provide opportunities to develop their proven abilities as leaders and to support other women to achieve positive changes. We believe that supporting women’s economic empowerment to grow in business and enterprise, training, and development, promotes gender equality, social inclusion, and healthy communities.

We offer women a variety of accredited training courses to help empower their way to success. Our Women’s empowerment training opportunities include a range of NVQ courses from Esol, food hygiene, business development, IT, digital skills Equality & Diversity, and safeguarding, Health & Safety training.

We also deliver creative courses, from creative writing, poetry & prose, cooking organic, health, well-being, and promoting environment and climate change activities.

The women we work with have launched community business initiatives in food education, nutrition, and well-being as models for regenerating community wealth and health systems. Through our delivery of creative learning activities, programmes and events, we aim to break down barriers, reduce the challenges of social and gender inequality experienced by women and girls from minority backgrounds and improve employability opportunities, leadership skills, and confidence.

Growing Roots Project

At Toxteth Town Hall, we are creating a community garden blending a butterfly and edible flower garden and also growing seasonal vegetables to host a natural habitat for pollinators and human visitors of all ages to make a positive difference for our women, families and wildlife.

The Growing Community Roots idea came from members to bring people together to connect with our Growing Community Roots activities that will focus on regenerating the local community’s well-being and protecting our natural environment with a natural approach to health, learning about the benefits of edible flowers and herbs in diets to improve the mind and body.
